Focus 19
The Health Communications Research Lab (HCRL) at Washington University in St.Louis reported on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on vulnerable communities across the U.S. Our team monitored real-time data from United Way’s 211 helpline service— an invaluable free resource referring individuals to critical resources and services such as housing, food, utility bill assistance, transportation, child care and health care.
The goal of this reporting was to provide community leaders of timely, actionable insights of the evolving social needs brought on by the pandemic within their communities. I introduced Tableau to the HCRL as an essential tool for data visualization and created near-daily dashboards to communicate trends and urgent needs as they developed. These visualizations played a key role in making the data accessible and impactful for a broad audience, including local leaders.
In addition to supporting the HCRL's regular reporting efforts, our findings were also published in Health Affairs, helping to bring national attention to the growing social needs during the pandemic.
Project Fearless
Project Fearless is a non-profit organization providing after-school programs in Amsterdam and Rotterdam to young girls aged 9-17. These programs provide a safe, supportive environment where participants can build confidence, develop new skills, and form meaningful friendships.
I volunteered with Project Fearless from 2022 to 2024, initially as a Run Coach— a truly rewarding experience that allowed me to support and mentor young girls as they built self-confidence in achieving their personal running goals. In 2023, I also supported the organization's annual impact reporting as a volunteer Impact Assessment Co-Coordinator. In this role, I cleaned, analyzed, and visualized program data to support internal evaluation and external communications. After completing the 2023 analysis, I contributed to the development of the 2024 survey, researching validated measurement tools that aligned with the season’s theme.
